Joy Bacon's sixth Oliver Bean story, Oliver Bean, Doctors Aren't Mean! is dedicated to several doctors, including Dr. Dennis Devereux who asked Joy one day, "why don't you write a book that lets kids know doctors are not mean?" And that is just what Joy did. When Oliver Bean has an appendix attack at a baseball game, he not only has to go to the doctor but also to the hospital and have an operation. Oliver's fears and worries are tempered as he meets the doctors and nurses and learns that the medical staff are kind and help him feel better. Illustrated by students at the E. J. Russell Elementary school in Pine Bush, NY this is a wonderful addition to any home or public library.
