Our Vision

Keene Publishing, an independent publisher, seeks to publish books that illuminate the minds and lives of readers. We are committed to publishing books that matter—books that inform, inspire, and entertain as they provide our readers with a keener understanding of a subject, explored either through fiction or nonfiction. Our books offer readers of all ages an opportunity to grow, to learn, to share.

Our Culture

Our culture internally and externally is based on the principles outlined in our first business book, Creating a Culture of Success. Mutual respect and a team oriented approach to book production that centers on people over process is the basis of our philosophy. Authors and illustrators work together with staff members on a common vision from day one. At Keene Publishing, we aim to illuminate the lives of our authors, our illustrators, and our staff by nurturing creativity and growth, by providing a vibrant, fun work environment, and by producing finely honed books of which we are all proud.

At Keene Publishing we invest in people. We delight in discovering first-time authors and illustrators as well as working with seasoned professionals. We look for people to work with who share our belief that books have the power to make a difference in our world.

Our Products

Our books are produced using the highest quality materials. We only print in the USA because we believe in putting Americans to work first and foremost. High quality book printers such as Sheridan and Worzalla are our partners in providing library quality binding and books that will last on your shelf at home or in a busy school library for years to come. Our editorial process involves story line editing, character development, copy edits, target reader testing, and multiple proofreading by different professionals before going to press. Book design, from cover to cover is done by experienced professionals and market testing is done before final decisions are made.

Our Marketing

We partner with our authors and illustrators in book promotion. The process begins at manuscript submission. Once a manuscript is accepted, it then continues with the completion of the Publicity Profile where authors educate us on their target reader and the avenues where past and present contacts can help create a buzz about the book. Our marketing approach includes the traditional book trade, specialty and premium sales, as well as catalog sales. Ideally, a local approach in the author’s home town—through author appearances and interviews by newspaper and radio—builds momentum toward a regional, and then national exposure. Book signings, educational presentations, and visits to schools, libraries, etc. are key elements to the success of any book, and cannot be done without the enthusiasm and personal commitment that our authors and illustrators bring to the table. We select authors and illustrators who put forth the effort, and then, as a good partners should, we work together to elevate the buzz about the book—bringing the book to more readers.
